Straw Purchases

Don’t Lie for the other Guy

A straw purchase is an illegal firearm purchase where one person buys a gun on behalf of another person who is unable to pass the required federal background check or the person does not want his or her name associated with the firearm purchase and uses another person who can pass the required background check to purchase the firearm for him/her. Straw purchasing a firearm is taken very seriously; it is a federal crime that is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine!

According to statistics gathered by the FBI, 40% of criminals obtain their firearms through friends or family and another 40% obtain their firearms from illegal sources on the street. Transferring firearms to others is not a harmless act and can result in criminal prosecution. Don’t put yourself in jeopardy for someone else; the National Center for Firearms Removal is here to assist by accepting firearms for removal.
