“Gun buyback programs” are typically collaborations organized with public funds by local cities and their police departments in an effort to address gun violence and enhance public safety by removing unwanted guns using financial incentives. These “buybacks” always draw large crowds of community members looking to dispose of unwanted firearms and almost always end early due to limited resources available to “buy back” the huge numbers of unwanted firearms accumulated throughout the country.
Our privately funded firearm removal program is a unique nationwide effort; the success of our program, much like “gun buybacks,” depends on outreach, volunteers, tax incentives and generous donors. The limiting factor of getting unwanted guns out of the communities comes down to resources. Financial donations keep our program going.
